The air end of a screw compressor (also known as the main unit or compression element) is the core working component of the compressor, responsible for converting ambient air into high-pressure gas through mechanical motion. Essentially, it consists of a system of high-precision meshing rotors, which achieve gas intake, compression, and discharge through the continuous rotation of the male and female rotors.


Product features

1. Yin-Yang Rotors

The main and auxiliary rotors mesh with a 4:6 or 5:6 gear ratio, forming a compression chamber with variable volume (patented profiles such as SRM and GHH).

2. Rotor Housing

The cast steel/aluminum alloy housing with built-in cooling water channels withstands high temperatures and high pressures (pressure resistance ≥ 1.5 times the operating pressure).

3. Bearing System

Angular contact bearings (axial force) + cylindrical roller bearings (radial force) ensure rotor clearance ≤ 0.02mm.

4. Shaft Seal Assembly

A skeleton oil seal or mechanical seal prevents lubricating oil from leaking into the compression chamber (gas seal for oil-free compressors).

Q1: How is the air end of an oil-free compressor sealed?

A: Water-lubricated: Pure water replaces lubricating oil (rotor Teflon coating for rust prevention).

Dry-sealed: Synchronous gearbox isolation + labyrinth seal (clearance <0.01mm).


Q2: Why do variable-frequency air compressors provide better air end protection?

A: Slow speed increase from 0 Hz → Avoids instantaneous torque shock to the bearings from a mains-frequency compressor.

Low-speed operation (25% load) → Reduces compression heat → Reduces the risk of rotor thermal deformation.


Q3: Can air end performance be restored after an overhaul?

A: Professional repair (laser cladding + fine grinding): Efficiency restored to ≥95%.

Manual scraping repair: Efficiency restored to only 70%-80%.


Q4: What are the hazards of excessive exhaust temperature to the air end?

A: High temperature → Carbonization of lubricating oil → Bearing lubrication failure → Rotor locking → Damage to the entire unit.
